Dear Mr. Wenger,

I am an Arsenal fans who have supported Gunners for over 15 years. The League and FA Cup double in 1997/98 and 2001/02, not to mention the unbeaten league champion in 2003/04 recorded a glorious chapter in Arsenal history. The passion and the momentum could always threaten our opponents. Thank you for your contribution to Arsenal. You are always dedicated to work for Arsenal, not regard it as a normal job.

Beautiful memory can be depleted. When gooners have to always think of the wonderful past results, how can the team leave such a long-term low ebb? Four to five years ago, the excuse of club’s financial problem may be due to returning the debt of construction fee of Emirates Stadium so no superstars joined Arsenal and superb players left. Today there is no more debt but still we cannot see what we expect. Expectation, disappointment; Waiting, helplessness; passion, silence……The difference we are facing now. When will I be proud of being a gooner again?

At this stage, other Premier League clubs welcome new joiners one by one. It seems easy for them to get world class players. Have Mr. Wenger considered fans’ feeling? In transfer market, Arsenal always gets the top amount of news but finally confirmed transfers are very few. You point out the irrational craziness in transfer market. You say the scouts are working hard to find the right persons. Our team already has suitable players. Frankly, I feel fatigue towards your response. I can replace you to respond to the news reporters. I have no mood to trace the news and ask for further information. You should have speechless difficulties and we outsiders cannot fully understand. However, we hope you realize that your boss is not only board members and club’s owners but also Arsenal players and the global fans. We all expect you a lot and hope you put team performance as a priority to strengthen the bench. Moreover, several leading clubs in Premier League have changed their manager. Have you worried you will be the next one?

Before I watched the live matches of Arsenal, I shouted out loudly for Arsenal goals but now I am worried the opponent snatches victory from the jaws of defeat. When Arsenal lost a goal, I emotionally roared and believed the team could win finally yet currently I am afraid of suffering from an utterly loss at the end and just criticize the team. It seems I do not care about whether Arsenal wins or loses. I have lost my power to support the team……When you see your team lag behind or feel hard to find a goal, you can still be relaxed and sit on the seats without delivering any direct guidance to the team. I would like to tell you not only had the team kept fighting despite the continuous setbacks but the Arsenal fans also kept supporting. Nevertheless, under the continuous loss, do we have already surrendered? Have we aligned participation in UFFA Champions League as our final aim annually? I am afraid I am going to silently accept this target.

There are numerous and unsolved weaknesses in the team. From the lineup players and the spontaneous response during matches, could you hear the fans’ voice? Although as a manager, you are familiar with the players in your team, we cannot understand many points. Our doubt is reasonable as we always observe the same ongoing problems. Each season the occurrence of injured players and the more or less development in league and cup follow the same script. I find nothing you have carried out to solve it. I just wonder whether you have spent time reflecting yourself. Do you have any action plan to improve the team? No matter successfully purchasing new players or not, I am doubtful whether you have adequate strategies and ability to amend Arsenal. As shown from your gray-headed and wrinkled face, it seems you have already tried your best.

I am not a glory hunter but I desire Arsenal to get victory. Facing the taunt and negative feedback from friends and Internet users, I am still calm and feel nothing special. Soccer players and manager transfer to new club but as a fans, one day gooner, forever gooner. No matter the team performance is outstanding or mediocre, I still continue to support. Three years ago I visited Emirates Stadium and looked on the fabulous past record of Gunners. What a mixed feeling!Mr. Wenger, hope you can rescue and boost the team and create a fantastic legend for Arsenal in future. In case one day you decide to leave and let another right person manage Arsenal, just do it!

Best regards,
An Arsenal supporter from Hong Kong
