於星期六心臟病發入院、情況一直危胎的韋健士，今日證實不治，享年61歲。「毫無疑問地，韋健士是車路士其中一個最偉大、最著名、最深受敬佩的本土球員。他是受盡愛戴的球會icon和大使。我們永遠懷念你。」車路士在官網這樣寫道。

韋健士在球員時代司職中場，別名Butch（屠夫），曾84次代表英格蘭國家隊，當中10場比賽以隊長上陣。
他的球員生涯於1973年在車路士出道，期間效力了6年，上陣179場攻入30球，並於1975年以18歲之齡接過球隊隊長臂章，期後加盟曼聯、AC米蘭、格拉斯哥流浪及QPR等球會。掛靴後，他仍然與車仔有緊密聯繫，前後兩次做過車路士助教，一度短暫出任球隊看守領隊一職，亦曾執教昆士柏流浪、富咸及約旦國家隊。

安察洛提就在其個人自傳中如此評價他：「Ray（韋健士）是特別的一個，永遠在場、高貴的精神、真正藍血人，車路士就在他的血液中流動。沒有他，我們不可能贏得甚麼。」
