Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack is urging his side to watch out for a Chelsea response
Former Chelsea star Michael Ballack has warned his current club Bayer Leverkusen that Chelsea are now more dangerous than ever.
The former German captain will be making his 100th appearance in European club competitions in tomorrow night’s clash with Andre Villas-Boas’ side at the BayArena.
The fact it is against his former club has only enhanced the occasion for Ballack, but he is wary of the threat the Stamford Bridge side will pose after their third loss in four games at the weekend.
"This is something special. The number 100 means quite a bit," said the 35-year-old.
"Chelsea know how important this game is and top teams are the ones who deliver under pressure, this makes Chelsea more dangerous.
"But we can also beat them, we are playing at home after all. It is a fantastic game for us and everyone has been waiting for it."
The former Bayern Munich midfielder is in his second spell at Leverkusen, rejoining the club after a four-year spell in West London.
The German side trail Chelsea by two points at the top of Group E and Ballack is confident his side can produce a performance that will see them leapfrog the west London outfit into the first qualification spot.
"We cannot hide and we should not be afraid," he said. "We have won both our home games so far and now we can make it three.
"We did not get into this competition just to take part. We have the quality to advance and we need to get that into our heads."
