'The whole team is angry,' says Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic after 5-3 defeat to Arsenal
Blues let in five goals at home for the first time in Premier League history against Arsenal, and the Serbian defender says they have been working hard to rectify their mistakes
Branislav Ivanovic says the entire Chelsea squad are angry about the weekend's defeat to Arsenal and need a vast improvement in their Champions League encounter with Genk on Tuesday.
The Serbian defender was in the centre of a defence that leaked five goals on Saturday, but stressed the Chelsea squad know what is required to recover from the defeat.
"The whole team is angry and we have to show the reaction and our character to change things for us," Ivanovic told reporters.
"It was a big derby and when you lose you cannot be happy. As a defender I can never be happy with conceding five goals.
"The good side is we know where we made mistakes and we can try everything to make sure it does not happen again.
"It is not usual to lose to lose two games but we are stronger than last year when this happened. You have to work hard and do your proper job, doing proper things on the pitch.
"We know and we are ready to prepare the game for tomorrow, which is a very important game for us."
Ivanovic also defended Andre Villas-Boas' attacking approach against Arsenal, insisting the goals conceeded came from the defence switching off, not from problems in attack.
He added: "[He wants] to play attacking football and play better football, but he didn't ask for us to change something in defence.
"Defence is simple, you have to just be better than your opponent and show more wishes to win every tackle. We are playing more attacking football but when you finish a game at home 3-5 it's a defensively poor game.
"Words don't need to be [said] - every one of us has to look in the mirror, to be honest with how we played defensively and of course we know where we made mistakes.
"Things happened that we didn't want. The game changed psychologically to Arsenal's side and we lost.
"This could be one of the most important things in our season, after this game. I think it's a great reaction of the group and it will be good to show how we are strong.
"We know how to play and will do everything to be better defensively. We have to be fully concentrated for the whole game and be strong for 90 minutes."
