John Obi Mikel hoping to fire Chelsea to glory following disappointment with Nigeria
Blues midfielder wants to channel his frustration at failing to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations into success at Stamford Bridge and hails the work of boss Andre Villas-Boas
John Obi Mikel is hoping that he can have a successful season at Chelsea after Nigeria failed to qualify for next year's Africa Cup of Nations.

The midfielder will be available throughout January, when the tournament is held, and believes that can make life easier for him this season.

He also hopes for a good run of form after recovering mentally following his father's kidnapping and eventual return.

"I feel more relaxed on the pitch as well as off it now all that is over," Mikel said to the Fulham Chronicle.

"It was a very difficult time, but now I just want to get on with the game and keep doing what I do.

"Yes it is bad that [Nigeria] did not qualify and I’m very disappointed not to be playing in January, but we have to move on.

“Maybe my manager will be happy, I don’t know, but in a way it will make my season easier with Chelsea because it does make it difficult when you go away.

“You feel like you have to start all over again when you come back to the club because the guys who have been there have been playing and are settled and you just can’t come and expect to take their place just like that. You have to adapt to the different pace again and the different environment after being away in Africa."

Mikel has been impressed by Chelsea under Andre Villas-Boas and has suggested that there has been a good understanding between the young manager and his squad.
“It has started very well under the new manager and we just have to keep going," he said.

"We all want to win and he has his ideas and I think they are the same as our ideas as players.

"Hopefully we will turn that into trophies this season. I think we can."
