Chelsea scout confirms defender interest
Chelsea – Igor Lichnovsky is on Andre Villas-Boas’ radar

Young Chilean defender Igor Lichnovsky is being watched by Chelsea, chief South American scout Jorge Alvial has revealed.

The transfer window may have long closed now, but the Blues still have scouts across the globe finding future stars, and Alvial believes that the 17-year-old may have what it takes to move to English football very soon.

Lichnovksy joined Universidad de Chile at 10-years-old, and has been with the club for seven years. He has also represented the Chilean U17 national side.

"Igor is a very good player. We are keeping tabs on him and have added his name to our shortlist. He is one of the players who we are closely following," Alvial told La Tercera.

The scout insisted though that the Blues will not push through the signing though, and will give the youngster time to grow and show his potential before deciding if he’s ready to make the step up to Stamford Bridge.

"We are not in a rush, and we realise that transfers from South America to England are not easy,” he said.

“For example, I scouted Franco Di Santo and it took him six months to adapt when we signed him for Chelsea."

Chelsea have often utilised their connections in South America, and as a result, in the summer the club signed Brazilian starlet Lucas Piazon. Piazon will join the Blues in January next year when he turns 18, and is eligible for a work visa and able to sign a long-term deal.
