※ Suphanburi's new team bus.

Quite different to the "park the bus" tactic as José Mourinho coined it, there was actually a real bus, parking not in front of the goal but outside the stadium, and the aim is to embarrass your opponents with your superior looking team bus, in order to cut their morale in half.

This Suphanburi’s unique tactic worked quite well at the beginning, as even their opponent Buriram United’s fans were awed by this gorgeous and sleek looking team bus, and couldn't help instagraming it. The admin of Supanburi’s English Facebook page described their new team bus as “James Bond on wheels”. As James Bond wears Union Jack, the bus got to be a Top Gear from England with so much British style.

This bus is twice the height of Buriram's team bus, so Suphanburi won the bus contest by a head. However at the football contest they were 4 heads short - 4-0, Buriram won the match at home to compensate the defeat of their bus.

Although the debut of the James bus didn't come with a happy ending, its 007 style was just too cool that fans from all over Thailand and the Commonwealth were all loving it and sharing it. Suphanburi have the ambition to grow beyond Thailand. They already have an English Facebook page, and now they have this black Daniel Craig team bus, their momentum to reach their goal is now a thousand pounds stronger.

Now we back to Hong Kong, a former British colony. Until this moment we still haven’t seen any club has a team bus like this. Some of them were even traveling to the stadium by a school bus-like coach. So why not Eastern Salon and Sun Pegasus, both have the ambitions to grow bigger and have a good budget on marketing, to buy a well-decorated team bus for their own?

Actually the car parks of their home stadiums are both very close to the public entrance. Although normally the Hong Kong fans would not come to the stadium as early as the team bus arrives, they can sill take picture with the bus or even get into the bus to have a look. Also, as we have a lot of bus and model car lovers in Hong Kong, clubs can produce their toy or model team bus as a product to sell. Good for marketing, good for business.

So shall we just name their buses now? For Eastern Salon, should we call it “Eastern Salon Big Big Bus*”? Or something like “Eastern Express” in British style? As the Premier League is still the most popular league in Hong Kong after 17 years of hand-over, I think the answer is crystal clear, is it not?

*Eastern Salon once hosted a slogan competition. A fan joked and came up with a hilarious slogan “Eastern Salon Big Big Ball”. The other fans liked this joke so much and they all voted for it so making it the most voted slogan in the competition. Of course the club was smart enough to deal with this awkward situation eventually.
